Our SHARED character curriculum (PSHE) helps prepare students for opportunities and responsibilities of adult life. Lessons will promote the personal growth of students in terms of attitudes and values, abilities and skills and provide them with the necessary knowledge and understanding to contribute to modern society. Not only will our curriculum prepare students for life after school, but it will also serve to improve the culture and ethos within school, by empowering students to follow the SHARED values.
At KS3, our curriculum will address three core themes: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world.

The subject itself is termed SHARED for students at Lightcliffe. Each value is taught within the curriculum itself. For example, students learn about service through our work on helping others through topics like first aid. Health and happiness is taught through our health and wellbeing topics, such as the importance of sleep and stress management. Ambition is taught through learning about employability skills and careers. Resilience is taught through topics on relationships where students build knowledge and skills around what is healthy and unhealthy. Equity is taught through work on discrimination and stereotypes and dignity is taught through our work on digital literacy and topics such as creating a positive personal brand online.
Students will be given an attitude to learning grade each term.
This is a mandatory subject that will be taught at KS4, as it empowers students to build the knowledge and skills to stay safe, live healthy and fulfilling lives.
