Music

Curriculum Vision

‍Music is a broad canvas which covers the whole world. Our vision is to create musicians who develop an appreciation of the wide range of musical styles around them. Through performance and composition we will develop their confidence and understanding of the musical world which surrounds them.

Music Development Plan
Key Stage 3

What will I learn?

Through KS3 pupils will learn how the elements of music are used in different ways to create music that can elicit different moods and emotions. Through listening, composing and performing they will learn about music from different periods of history and parts of the World.

Throughout this work pupils will need to use their oracy skills to discuss their work. They will be encouraged to speak like an expert and use the correct musical terminology when discuss and writing about their own work, and the work of others.

How it will support my SHARED character development

Students will learn to work collaboratively with one another, replicating the modern working environment.  They will be taught to be resilient life-long learners through learning to refine and improve their knowledge and skills.  They will study a challenging and ambitious curriculum that will ensure they have the skillset to succeed in the field of music.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will take place at the end of each topic. This will usually be at the end of each term and will focus on composition or performance skills. During each topic an interim (A-zone) assessment will also take place.

Why study this subject at KS4?

Music is a creative outlet, and something that is enjoyed by many pupils as a listener. Taking this subject at KS4 will allow you to develop the skills needed to be a creator in this field, giving you an outlet for your creative side. The skills you develop as a musician (e.g. time management, planning, organisation, etc.) are desirable to employers outside of the music industry.

Key Stage 4

What will I learn?

Pupils will follow the BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice. Learners will develop their skills, such as using musical elements in music creation, performance and music production. This is done through a mixture of practical workshops and analysis of creative work from experts in the field.

Everyone taking this qualification will sill study three components covering the following areas:

Component 1: Exploring Music Products and Styles

Explore the techniques used in the creation of different musical products and investigate the key features of different musical styles.

Component 2: Music Skills Development

As a performer, producer or creator in the music industry, you need to continually develop your skills. Pupils will have the opportunity to develop two of these disciplines in practical tasks, while documenting their progress and planning for further improvement.

Component 3: Responding to a Music Brief

As a composer or performer pupils have the opportunity to develop and present music in response to a given music brief.
