Why study Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA)? The Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA) is offered as an enrichment course to be studied in addition to your full-time programme. It is a nationally recognised qualification awarded through the Sports Leaders UK. It provides an introduction for those people wishing to lead groups in sporting and recreational activities and gives those over 16 years of age, regardless of ability, the opportunity to train and provide voluntary assistance alongside qualified coaches or teachers. What will I study? It will run alongside your A-Level / BTEC Sport course. All units must be completed and a voluntary community placement of at least 10 hours also fulfilled. How will I be assessed? There will be continual internal assessment. You must complete all modules and you will be externally moderated. Are there the entry requirements? No, but you should be prepared to develop leadership skills, work independently and work as a team. What next? The Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA) is an ideal way to develop your leadership skills, personal confidence and experience. It’s open to all full-time students, but especially useful if you’re studying AS/A2 PE Studies or BTEC Diploma in Sport.

An important part of the course is the 30 hours' voluntary leadership, undertaken in local schools and clubs, which will give you the opportunity to extend your leadership skills, and to provide voluntary assistance alongside qualified coaches and teachers, thereby increasing your own knowledge, experience and confidence in leading. You will learn:* How to plan, organise, and lead activity sessions for various social groups* Further develop your knowledge of fitness in sport* Work with children from local primary schools* Complete a First Aid in Sport qualification* Work with people with disabilities* Gain a Level 1 National Sports Governing Body Qualification Course Aims The course builds on existing foundations from the Community Sports Leadership course. It will enable you to pursue a career in sports leadership. What are the entry requirements? Award in Community Sports Leadership level 2 or Principles of Coaching Sport level 2/3. How is the course assessed? You will be continually assessed throughout the year. You will be assessed on your delivery of practical sessions to young children and people with disabilities. You will also produce an evidence folder of work. What next? You may progress onto a career in sports coaching or teaching. This course will also give you 30 UCAS points if you are applying for university.
