What do I need to study the course? You should have five GCSEs grades A*- C. You do not need to have studied Business Studies before, but this course does require a more “outgoing” personality. You will have to conduct in-depth research into different businesses, including interviewing key workers and consumers; delivering formal presentations and running enterprise ventures. What does the course involve? The subject content enables students to investigate different types and sizes of organisations in various business sectors and environments, drawing on local, national and global contexts, including data which relates to the Welsh business environment. Students will develop a holistic understanding of business and enterprise and be aware of the opportunities and threats of operating in a global marketplace. Students will be expected to be familiar with current issues in business and be able to investigate, analyse and evaluate contemporary business opportunities and problems in a wide range of contexts, whilst recognising how businesses adapt to operate in a dynamic business environment. Students will apply a number of analytical techniques, including decision-making models, investment appraisal tools and ratio analysis, to investigate business opportunities and problems to determine business strategy in a range of contexts. Business Studies is assessed through the following 4 units over the 2 years: AS Unit 1 Business Opportunities AS Unit 2 Business Functions Unit 3 Business Analysis and Strategy Unit 4 Business in a Changing World What next? Today’s business climate is an exciting time to study business and this course allows you to gain the required business understanding of all elements involved in running businesses as well as the detail and depth to make a career in a specified area of subject. On this course you will develop a wide range of transferable skills which are highly valued by employers and can be applied to any choice of career. Business Studies is an ideal qualification for those students who want a broad background in business and provides access to a wide range of degree courses in higher educational establishments.
