KS5: Physical Education (BTEC) Course Title: BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport Grading: D*- Fail Course Overview: This is intended as an Applied General qualification, equivalent in size to two A Levels. It has been designed as part of a two-year programme, normally in conjunction with one or more qualifications at Level 3. This qualification is aimed at learners looking to progress to higher education in this sector. The units that will be covered are… Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology *# Unit 2 – Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being*# Unit 3 – Professional Development in the Sports Industry* Unit 4 – Sports Leadership Unit 8 – Coaching for Performance Unit 10 – Sports Event Organisation Unit 18 – Work Experience in Active Leisure Unit 22 - Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry *# Unit 23 - Skill Acquisition in Sport * (Units with a * are mandatory units. Units with a # are externally assessed by either an exam or synoptic paper.) External Assessment Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology *# Unit 2 – Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being*# Unit 22 - Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry *# (Units with a * are mandatory units. Units with a # are externally assessed by either an exam or synoptic paper.) Internal Assessment: Each one is an independent assignment that you will be set by your teacher. You will be given a deadline to hand in your work and then be given it back to make alterations and improve your grade. As you have 3/4 hours a week, plus homework, you will find we cover units very quickly. You will firstly be taught the information about the topic. This is called “classwork”, and your teacher will ask you to title work “classwork” so that you don’t get this information confused with coursework. You have to complete all class work to be able to write up your coursework. You have to complete a certain amount of work in order to pass each unit. You will be given an assignment sheet that will explain to you what work you have to do to complete the coursework. This is called assessment criteria. You will have a progress tracker tick list in your folder and on display in the class room that will help track how much work you have done and how much more you have to do.
