What do I need to study the course? You should have four GCSE grades A*- C. You do not need to have studied Physical Education or Sport before, but this course does require a more “outgoing” personality and a passion for sport. What does the course involve? The BTEC Level 3 Certificate offers a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspects of employment within the appropriate vocational sector. The BTEC Level 3 Certificate is a qualification which can extend a student’s programme of study and give vocational emphasis. The BTEC Level 3 Certificate is broadly equivalent to one GCE AS Level and the following units will be studied in the first year: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport The Physiology of Fitness Assessing Risk in Sport Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma extends the specialist work-related focus of the BTEC Level 3 Certificate and covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the appropriate vocational sector. It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A Level. After completing the above units of study, students will move on to study the following units in their second year of the course: Outdoor and Adventurous Activities which includes a three day residential course trip away. Working Experience in Sport which includes a three-day organised placement in a real-life sports setting. Sports Coaching where all students help lead a Disability Sports Festival and primary school coaching sessions. All units are internally assessed. All assessment for the BTEC qualifications are based on the achievement of specified learning outcomes. Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment and grading criteria which are to be used for grading purposes. A summarising unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit or distinction. What next? BTEC qualifications in Sport provide an introduction to the sector for learners looking to build a career in sport, within one of its occupational areas. These areas include careers in exercise and fitness, coaching and leadership, sports development and the outdoors.
