What do I need to study the course? Entry requirements: Grade C or above in any Art related GCSE or the submission of a small portfolio to assess technical skill and suitability for the course. Students will be entered for AS at the end of year 12 before progressing onto the full A-level in year 13. What does the AS course involve? AS consists of 2 components; Component 1. Portfolio This will comprise a selection of extended projects which enable students to develop their skills with a range of media and techniques, whilst demonstrating their ability to research and develop ideas and link their work with relevant contextual materials. No time limit 96 marks 60% of AS level Non-exam assessment (NEA) set and marked by the centre and moderated by AQA during a visit to the centre. Component 2. Externally set assignment 5 starting points will be provided by AQA and students will then have time to research, plan and develop their ideas in response to the selected question. There will then be a period of 10 hours supervised time in which students will create their response to the assignment. Preparatory period + 10 hours supervised time 96 marks 40% of AS level Non-exam assessment (NEA) set by AQA, marked by the centre and moderated by AQA during a visit to the centre. What does the A Level course involve? A level consists of 2 components; Component 1. Personal Investigation Students are required to conduct a practical investigation into an idea, issues, concept or theme. Component 1: Personal investigation – A practical investigation with a 1000-3000 word written study in support of the practical work. No time limit 96 marks 60% of A-level Non-exam assessment (NEA) set and marked by the centre and moderated by AQA during a visit to the centre. Component 2: Externally set assignment 8 starting points will be provided by AQA and students will then have time to research, plan and develop their ideas in response to the selected question. There will then be a period of 15 hours supervised time in which students will create their response to the assignment.
