What do I need to study the course? You should have five GCSEs grades A*- C. You do not need to have studied Business Studies before, but this course does require a more “outgoing” personality. You will have to conduct in-depth research into different businesses, including interviewing key workers and consumers; delivering formal presentations and running enterprise ventures. What does the course involve? You will gain an understanding of business organisations, how they are managed, the internal working of a business and the markets they serve. You will develop an awareness of how business affects us all and how the environment in which we live impacts upon business. You will develop a range of study skills including communication, decision-making and problem solving as well as the ability to evaluate and quantify information. This qualification provides a broad understanding of business knowledge and skills to support progress to higher education and is suitable for learning alongside other Level 3 qualifications, ie A levels and/or other Level 3 vocational qualifications. This qualification can also prepare people to take up employment in business and entrepreneurship, either directly after achieving the qualification or via higher education at university or college. Studying this qualification will enable learners to develop the fundamental knowledge and skills recognised as most important by higher education and employers. The qualification also offers learners an opportunity to develop transferable skills, such as teamwork, research and communication as part of their applied learning. Applied Business is assessed through the following: Unit 1 Financial planning and analysis (External examination) Unit 2 Business dynamics (Internally centre assessed) Unit 3 Entrepreneurial opportunities (External assignment) Unit 4 Managing and leading people (External examination) Unit 5 Developing a business proposal (Internally centre assessed) Unit 8 Marketing communications (Internally centre assessed) 50% is assessed externally, with the other 50% internally, with units graded on Pass, Merit and Distinction. What next? AQA Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Business is an ideal qualification for those students who want a broad background in business and provides access to a wide range of degree courses in higher educational establishments.
