Drama What will my child learn about in Drama? We cover 6 topics over Year 7 and 8 including: basic acting skills, Commedia dell’arte, Devising theatre, Shakespeare, Issue based Drama and Page to stage. What type of homework will be set? Mainly line learning, research or rehearsal homework. You can expect your child to get between 1-2 home works for Drama per half term. How will my child be assessed this year (including key dates)? Your child will be assessed 3 times a topic. Once for Making, Performing and Responding which recorded in the assessment booklet.

GCSE Drama What will I learn? There are 3 components to your course: A coursework based devised theatre unit; a portfolio and a live performance to an audience A practical performance exam based on scripted extracts. A written paper based on a play you have studied. How will I be assessed? Your devised theatre unit is marked by your teacher. The scripted performance and written exams are marked by an examiner. BTEC Performing Arts (Acting) What will I learn? There are 3 units that you will cover: Unit 1 – (25%) - rehearse and record 2 audition pieces and write a letter of application. Externally assessed unit. Unit 2 – (25%) - As a large group create from scratch a devised performance and deliver it to a live audience. Unit 3 – (50%) - Learning all the skills required to become a successful actor, culminating in a showcase live performance night. How will I be assessed? Everything is marked by your teacher except for unit 1 which is sent off to the exam board for marking. What could I move onto? A-Level Drama or BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts. You can access either course from either option in KS4.
