It is essential that students have previous experience of dance. You must demonstrate a real enthusiasm for dance and all students must be willing to participate in practical dance performance. (Students may be required to audition at interview). The course is physically demanding and so you must committed to improving your fitness and conditioning levels. The course will only run if a sufficient number of students express an interest.
Subsidiary Diploma – 5 Units. This two year A-level equivalent course is taught through a combination of practical and written assignments. The course is aimed at those students who are enthusiastic about practical dance and wish to develop their technical and creative skills. The course provides you with the opportunity to study a range of different dance techniques including choreography, contemporary dance, performance and jazz. Throughout the course you will participate in a range of performances to help you broaden your understanding of the world of dance and prepare you for full time training. The BTEC level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) is assessed through a range of practical performances and workshops, and written assignments.
A further three specialist units will be chosen from the following: Applying Contemporary Dance Technique, Applying Classical Ballet Technique, Jazz Dance, Tap Dance, Urban Dance, The Healthy Performer, Choreographic Principles
The course is a strong foundation for further study of Dance at University or employment in the performance industry or PE/dance teaching profession.
