Course Overview:

Our students who choose to study GCSE Applied Business in year 11 investigate real-life businesses. They study a range of businesses from local sole-trader businesses to large international PLCs and apply the business theory that they have learnt to these real-life business situations. Students develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse data, think critically about business issues and make informed decisions – all skills that are needed for further study and employment.

  • Controlled Assessment - 60% - 3 tasks, each worth 20%
  • Written Examination - 40% - 1 hour long paper at the end of Year 11

Course Title: Level 2 Certificate in Business

Grading: Pass – Distinction*

Course Overview:

The Level 2 Certificate in Business is designed to provide a broad understanding of business and to support progress to higher education. It will provide an insight into how businesses operate and what makes them successful. Anyone thinking of joining an existing business or starting their own business needs to understand what makes a business work. The ability to conduct research, write reports and do presentations is valued by all employers. As this is a vocational course, you will be involved in a range of activities such as visiting local businesses, carrying out research, designing promotional campaigns and writing plans for a new business of your own.

The Level 2 Certificate in Business consists of 4 units.  The aim of the course is to introduce students to the world of business and the different aspects that affect and influence how different businesses operate.

  • Unit 1 – Enterprise in the Business World (Coursework)
  • Unit 2 – Finance for Business (Exam)
  • Unit 3- Promoting a Brand (Coursework)
  • Unit 8 – Recruitment, Selection and Employment (Coursework)

The course is 75% coursework and 25% external exam.

Internal Assessment:

The course comprises of mock assignments which build up to the skills required for the externally assessed assignments
